Episode 51: Giving Voice to 20th Dynasty Priest

A couple of weeks ago, scientists gave voice to Nesyamun, or The Leeds Mummy, that lived during the reign of Ramses XI (20th Dynasty). As a priest who worshipped at the Temple of Amun in the Karnak Complex, his voice would have been critical to his position. Because Nesyamun had a well preserved body, scientists were able to create a 3D print of his voice box. According to the Yorkshire Post, the researchers “attached an electronic larynx” and sounds were made, kind of like vowels.
